Key Stage 4 English
GCSE English and English Literature
All Year 10 and 11 pupils study both English and English Literature for GCSE examinations.
Pupils are banded and placed in sets within the bands. There is the opportunity for movement between sets.
The AQA GCSE syllabus is followed, offering a rich and varied diet! Examples of texts include Wuthering Heights, Frankenstein, The Crucible, Educating Rita, Macbeth, The Merchant of Venice. A wide variety of poets are studied including Simon Armitage and Carol Ann Duffy.
Within GCSE Drama there is an annual Arts Evening and GCSE students are given the opportunity to perform examination pieces for a captivated audience.
There are theatre visits to a variety of venues around the Northwest. Theatre companies also regularly visit the school.
