Key Stage 3 Technology
Technology at Key Stage3
Year 7 pupils are taught in organised groups within the school’s agreed banding system and have 3 lessons per week. Their time in Technology is divided between Food Technology, Textiles Technology and Product Design where they cover CAD CAM, Resistant Materials, Graphics, ECT, Structures and Mechanisms. The theme that all pupils will work within is “Health and Safety”.
In Year 8 pupils are taught in organised groups within the school’s agreed banding system and have 3 lessons per week. There are 10 groups in all and each pupil has the opportunity to study Food Technology, Textiles Technology and Product Design. The theme for year 8 pupils is “Galaxy Park”; a fictitious amusement park.
In Year 9 pupils are taught in organised groups within the school’s agreed banding system and have 3 lessons per week. There are 10 groups in all and each pupil has the opportunity to study Food Technology, Textiles Technology and Product Design. The theme for year 9 pupils is “Our World”; an opportunity for pupils to tackle some of the real issues of the way that design affects the environment. The first project that pupils work on is based around the issues of Fair Trade.
A recent development from the DfES sees the introduction of the Key Stage 3 National Strategy strand material for Design and Technology. This is incorporated into our present medium term plans.
