Wade Deacon Celebrate exceptional GCSE results 2025

Students, staff, and families are marking the achievements of the Class of 2025, with 44 per cent of pupils earning a grade 7 or higher in English. Overall, 76.3 per cent of students achieved grades 9 to 4 in both English and maths, with 62.1 per cent securing a grade 5 or above in the core subjects.

Brendan Hesketh, principal at Wade Deacon High School, said: "We are delighted to be celebrating all the achievements of the Class of 2025 in their GCSE examinations. Their results are a testament to their hard work, resilience and determination, as well as the dedication and commitment of our staff and the unwavering support of families."

The school’s overall attainment score rose by nearly six points, with 81.5 per cent of all exam entries awarded a grade 4 or higher. Nearly 20 per cent of students achieved at least one top grade.

Mr Hesketh said: "This cohort has experienced a secondary school journey unlike any other, with significant disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Remote learning, social restrictions, and the uncertainty of those times could have easily held them back.

"Instead, our students have shown courage, adaptability and perseverance, turning obstacles into opportunities and proving their ability to overcome adversity."

Matthew Deeney, head of school, said the results were particularly impressive given the challenges students had faced.

Mr Deeney said: "I am exceptionally proud of the outcomes that the students have achieved this year.

"As a year group, they have had an extremely challenging journey and have had to overcome some really difficult and challenging circumstances.

"To achieve what they have done with this exceptional set of results, despite the barriers, really is something to be proud of. We wish them all the absolute best of luck with their future endeavours and look forward to seeing what the future holds for our young people."
