Last night, our wonderful Wade Deacon musicians took to the stage for an intimate concert celebrating music and song from a wide range of stage and screen productions – and it was a spectacular success!
A rapturous audience clapped, whooped, and hollered as favourites were played and given superb treatments via strings, choir, brass, and rock band. It was a wonderful evening that saw parents reaching for their phones to capture and relive the magical experience that truly great art can give – an emotional response that we as an audience have no control over.
There were smiles, tears, and proud looks of triumph as each piece was bravely performed with passion and expert precision. Of particular note was the camaraderie established between students of different year groups, working together closely to produce a fantastic sound. It really is quite unique to this area of school – the opportunity to work with much older or younger students – and the respect that has been fostered between them was a joy to behold.
As we built towards the finale – a spellbinding medley from Les Misérables, performed with harmonies and solos by our incredible choir – it was a moment to reflect on what performance gives to our students. They are willing to stand in the spotlight, that most vulnerable of places, and place their trust in their ability, nerve, and the audience.
And then the cheers and applause come, and parents leave embracing their children, friends congratulate one another, and a truly special memory has been built.
A massive thank you to Mr Gallagher for making this happen – your vision and hard work truly paid off. Last night you said no thanks were required, as the privilege of working with such wonderful young performers was reward enough. This humble response is so typical of you, and why we value your work in the Performance team so much.
